About US

From small beginnings selling UV protection hats on the east coast of Australia, SunProtection Australia has grown into one of the country’s leading brands in sun-safe apparel for families, outdoor enthusiasts, and industry.

Based in Byron Bay, the company was founded by Warren and Kerryn Meanwell, a couple united by a deep commitment to sun safety awareness and the creation of high-quality, functional clothing for people who live and work outdoors.

In 1994, Warren became increasingly aware of the devastating impact of skin cancer among mine workers in Western Australia. This experience sparked a lifelong commitment from Warren and Kerryn to raise awareness and encourage safer sun protection practices across outdoor industries and communities.

Their message quickly resonated, helping to shift attitudes toward sun safety and encouraging people to take a more proactive approach to UV exposure and personal protection.

In 2006, Warren was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. Despite his diagnosis, he continued to advocate passionately for sun safety, remaining dedicated to helping protect others through awareness and education.

Warren passed away in December 2010 at the age of 49, leaving behind a legacy of purpose, resilience, and advocacy.

Today, Kerryn continues to honour their shared vision, guiding SunProtection Australia with a focus on meaningful impact — combining sun safety awareness with practical, high-performance apparel solutions.
